Tracking Trick

Okay, I was wondering about the tracking trick (or flaw) in the videotape.
hxxp: www. theringworldforum. com/forum/index. php?topic=480. msg7384#msg7384: ". . . rachel notices the tracking flaw in the upper right corner, and then they find out that there's more on the tape than actually viewable by a normal vcr"
Though I higly DOUBT Its possibility, could this be done in reality via some crazy way?
It's been bugging me since the last time I saw this movie, and there's NO answers on Google.

Well, for instance, when a TV show is broadcast it (or at least used to) have a black band across the top with information on the show that normally you could not see unless the image got pulled down somehow (it only happened to me once). I'm no expert on VCRs, but it's completely possible from what I understand.
